Tomas Smahaj has spent a quarter of a century in technology — pre-sales engineering, work transformation, SaaS operations, and now as Tech Lead, Google Workspace — Devoteam G Cloud. The through-line is not a product. It is the conviction that the way a company works should be simple enough that nobody has to think about it.
Outside of that, he races Hyrox: eight kilometres broken up by eight stations, run at full effort in a different European city each time. It started as a way to stay in shape and turned into a scoreboard — five races, a personal best of 1:11:16, and a plan for the next one already written.
The two tracks are more alike than they look. Both reward preparation over improvisation. Both are measured in splits — a migration cutover window and a roxzone are the same problem in different clothes. And both get better when you strip out what does not matter and repeat what does.
He lives in Älta, Stockholm, Sweden.
Autonomy
Give people the tools and the trust, and the work takes care of itself. It is how he leads a team and how he trains alone at 6am.
Balance
Technology should adapt to your life, not the other way around. The same rule applies to a training plan.
Continuous learning
Twenty-five years in and still collecting certifications, still adding race distances. Curiosity is the constant.
